Choose the viewing experience before the screen.
A practical brief for pixel pitch, brightness, content and installation.
A screen size is only the beginning.
Start with what the audience should see and where they will stand. A menu viewed from a queue has different priorities from a window display seen across a street. Define the closest and typical viewing distances, the size of essential text, and the ambient light before comparing display technologies.
Choose the format around the message.
Commercial LCD can suit a defined screen format, while modular LED can support larger or unusual surfaces. Stretched LCD can work within a shelf edge or architectural band. A transparent LED product introduces a trade-off between visibility through the surface and the appearance of the image. Use sample content to assess the chosen approach.
Ask what the complete installation includes.
The visible panel is only one part of the purchase. Clarify mounting, structure, media player, signal path, control access, service clearance and commissioning. Check whether a quoted dimension is the active picture area or the overall cabinet. Ask which components are replaceable from the front or rear.
- Indoor or outdoor conditions and expected direct sunlight.
- Active display area, overall dimensions and service access.
- Content resolution, source format and playback method.
- Power and network locations, mounting responsibility and delivery access.
Keep the exact model in the approval record.
A family name is useful for discovery but is insufficient for final approval. Retain the complete model code, applicable technical sheet and any project-specific drawings alongside the quotation. If the display is assembled to order, record the final configuration and acceptance criteria.
Common questions
Is the smallest pixel pitch always the best choice?
The useful pitch depends on the viewing distance, content, display area and budget. Evaluate representative content at the intended distance.
Does a quoted display include installation?
Only when the quotation explicitly includes it. Record supply, mounting, electrical work, configuration and commissioning as separate scope items.
